Okay, so there’s a baby coming. Which means there are vitally important, I’m talking life-altering topics, to be discussed, pondered upon and then posted on this blog for people to critique.
There’s day care and strollers and car seats (including the proper installation of) and nursery decorations and preparing for someone to cover me during maternity leave and planning our finances and whew…
I’m tired.
Fortunately, Mom has already figured out our “Bed Rest Plan”.
What’s that? Didn’t know I was going on bed rest? Me either but thankfully, my mom has a plan in place.
It was the third thing she said to me when I told her I was pregnant. There was some crying, laughing and Robin, I can’t believe it and then boom, “now listen, when you need to go on bed rest…” Really? I’m like 32.4 seconds pregnant and we already have a “bed rest plan”.
My question to Dad was does she already have her bags packed in preparation of said plan? Gotta love the woman for thinking ahead.
So all of that is important stuff. And I’ll get to it. Once I make a list. Which I’ll do as soon as I stop falling asleep at 7:08 pm every night.
But right now, I am completely focused on one thing and one thing only.
Okay well two because seriously, I am starving. All the time.
But the other thing is music. “They” say babies can hear all kinds of fabulous stuff in there. One study even found they recognized the theme song to their mom’s favorite soap opera.
Which begs the question who are these women sitting at home watching soap operas?
So far, my kid will recognize the theme music for Law & Order and True Blood and be able to count to 18 because I find myself oddly drawn to the Duggar family show. They’re so twistedly normal.
And that’s unacceptable. Music wise. I make no apologizes for my love of TLC programming.
My thought is that I need to have a set playlist of music I want my child to recognize from the minute he/she enters the world. Or before if that’s really possible. Realizing that I am in no position to create a song specific playlist, I figured I just need to purchase a nano and fill it with a bunch of my favorite bands/duos/solo artists.

Here’s the list so far:
1. The Beatles (were you expecting something different?)
2. NeedtoBreathe
3. Indigo Girls
4. Michael Jackson (except maybe not Thriller)
5. Chicago
6. Simon & Garfunkel
7. Paul Simon (how else will the kid learn to rhyme?)
8. Steven Curtis Chapman (can’t help it, I love the guy)
9. The Music Machine (does anyone know where I can get this on CD now? My copy’s an actual record)
10. Justin (well, not some of it)
11. Journey
12. Third Day
13. David Wilcox
14. Boomer Sooner
15. War Eagle
That's only a start. A work in progress. Anyone got any suggestions to add to the list?

Mrs. Skinny would like to suggest What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong...Beautiful Day by U2....and Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be (OSU)Cowboys by Mr. Willie Nelson. Congrats again and again and again!!!
ReplyDeleteHow about "Jesus Loves Me," in Mom's voice and any hymn that comes to your mind. Pam said she read Nursery rhyme's and Jennifer would get quiet quickly when she would cry after birth. I think the psalms would work well.
ReplyDeleteWhat I want to know is how did "War Eagle" get so low on the list?
From the Mom who can pack quickly!! Love You! :)
I'm totally with your mom here. Why is War Eagle at the bottom?!? Heresy! And when you say Justin, are we to assume the little one(s) will be bringing sexy back? Just curious.
ReplyDeleteLet me ponder on the music list. Of course the Beatles have to be on top of the list.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure your Music Machine is the same group as I have on CD. My Music Machine goup was famous for the song Talk Talk. If this is the same group, I can make you a copy of the CD. If not, well I failed you as a child.
Look, I am close to having to sedate your mother to keep her hear. In fact if school had not started, I don't think I could have convinced her to stay in Alabama until you really need her. I think Jim is facing the same thing with Martha to a lesser extent. If you moan loudly at night you might see your mother their the next morning.
Oh, one song to stay away from "Born to be Wild"
I'm in love with the song Miracle on Courtney's blog by Renee and Jeremey - its really sweet! I've been listening to a Praise Baby CD and he actually moves more when that is on versus regular radio. And he really does love church music - I think he's dancing in there and then when the sermon starts, he falls asleep!
ReplyDeleteAngela Cavett need to be on that list. I'm not sure after that. Call me sometime.
ReplyDeleteCousin Noah would like to recommend "Sing Over Me" it is the sweetest mix of soft praise and worship by contemporary christian artists. (Beth Dillon, Nichole N.) Noah has loved it from early on. Some of my favorite moments have been singing over him in the rocking chair and praying for him.
ReplyDeleteMay I suggest "Kyrie" by Rene Clausen and "Nessun Dorma", as sung by the late Luciano Pavarotti on the Three Tenors CD. Both are beautiful slassical pieces sung with extreme emotion (especcially Nesum Dorma).
