Like the rest of the nation, or so it feels, we got hit with the flu this week.
Joy.
But so far, it's just Rhys.
That's four days of snuggling photos right there. I mean, it's not a bad gig if you can get it. But I think we're both a little tired of being on the couch.
And in case you are super observant, yes, but of us are wearing basically the same thing every day. It all got washed every night and he loves his Aubie shirt. So he wore it all week long.
He was a little lethargic Monday morning. I told Chris, he's getting sick. At quiet time, he put himself down for a nap. Like, crawled in his bed, pulled the covers up, Froggy over his head, down for a nap.
That never happens.
He spent the afternoon getting progressively hotter and hotter in my lap.
Knowing the flu was been going around, we went to the doctor the next morning.
Yep, flu.
He's been in my lap almost the entire week.
Yesterday, he felt better in the morning but the afternoon was rough. He played too much and his fever came back with full-force. He got a little overtired and struggled to fall asleep. Froggy over the head for the rescue.
No, for real, there's a Rhys under there. Snoring. And, yes, there is a video of him snoring.
Cause I am just that loving of a mom.
Today, though, he was a hard playin' little man. For approximately 15 minutes. Then he would start crying and crawl back in my lap. He didn't have a fever today but his little body still needed to rest.
It's just hard to convince a toddler of that fact.
So today had moments like this...
Hopefully, he'll be back to his usual crazy self tomorrow. And I can get up off the couch.
Both kids did have quiet time in their rooms today. And believe me, I'm playing loose with words like "quiet" and "in their rooms." Since I've spent all the live long day on the couch and every night cleaning and sanitizing, I decided to relax at quiet time.
Which is basically code for "Break out the hot glue gun!"
I needed something fast and simple.
I'm kinda a hoarder of cans and glass bottles. I scrubbed the glass bottles to get the last of the glue from the labels off. I set those off to dry and decided to decorate some of the can. Not a single clue what I will do with them but hey, it was relaxing to start and finish at least ONE project this week.
Because I adore being the mom, the snuggler, the pillow, the nurse and the Lysol sprayer....
....but I'm also my own person and me, I like to create stuff.
So in a week of Mothering Trenches, I am grateful...
...for Chris who came home and dove right in every day. He was a huge help both with the kids and with the cleaning at night. And he stayed up last night so I could go to bed first and maybe fall asleep before he came in and started snoring. That's love right there, folks.
...for Tamiflu. Because really, I'd rather have four days of this than seven. And that's just fact.
...for Netflix. New movies were super helpful both in entertaining Aubrey Kate and helping Rhys stay calm and still. He's old enough now that he CAN watch a whole movie. He rarely does but when he's sick, he does. It's much easier to hold him in my lap than to carry him around like he wanted when he was younger.
...for pizza delivery. Mom and Dad sent us food Tuesday night and SAVED DINNER. No way I could have cooked that day. We were all hungry. Chris ate his entire pizza in one sitting. And the leftovers made for a fancy lunch the next day for Aubrey Kate. She loves fancy lunches.
...for a healing little man. Bless him, he was really sick. Those high fevers are the pits and toddler simply do not understand what's going on. He even had a nose bleed Tuesday night. He walked into our room with a face covered in blood. I hate it when one of the kids is sick. Or Chris for that matter. Breaks my heart. But I am grateful God gave our bodies the tools to fight off these things.
If you've got a free 20 seconds, I would appreciate a prayer for the rest of us. We don't want it. At.All. Chris has a free weekend this weekend and it's a long one at that. AND...the weather will be in the 60's and warm. We have lots of dreams of family time and projects and parks and maybe grilling something out. Not to mention there's a dinner at church tonight and a new family to meet about joining our small group. None of that happens if one of us gets the flu.
Thanks, y'all!
Hope you had a great week and I hope you have an amazing weekend!
I'm glad you all are feeling better. I pray you have a great family weekend.
