The first year...

Oh Rhys!  Bless your little second child heart!  It's almost three weeks after your birthday and your very apologetic mother is just now posting your first year letter and slide show.

Goodness.

What an amazing year this has been!  It has been an absolute joy getting to know you, Little Man.

You are a determined guy.  If you see a task, you will tackle it.  And you will keep trying to the point of tears of frustration.  We so enjoy watching you try and try and try again.  All the while completely focusing in on the task.  I could stand on my head and you'd give me nothing but a cursory glance before going right back to whatever you are working on.

My snuggle-bug!  From those early days when you wouldn't sleep outside of our arms, you continue to be cuddly and warm.  You hug and kiss which absolutely melts our hearts.  You run to see Daddy when he comes home which he says is the best part of his day.  You love to sit in my lap just because and will reach up to hug me at any moment.  Honestly, I can't get enough of the snuggles.

Beyond a doubt, your most notable trait is your serious nature.  You are a watcher and an analyzer, Little Guy.  Smiles and giggles come easier in the familiar environment of our home but outside, you are somberly taking in everything around you.  It's funny to me when you won't smile for strangers.  Kinda makes me feel like I know a secret.  You and I have a long life ahead of us filled with people watching quietly.

Each night before bed, I pray for you.  I pray the Lord will bless you.  Bless each part of you.  For a strong mind full of God-provided wisdom.  I pray you will have the eyes of Jesus and see people the way He sees us.  For a soft tongue, one that knows the power of your words.  I pray for broad shoulders so you can carry the burdens of your family, friends and those God will place along your path straight to the feet of Christ.  I pray you will have a heart in love with our Savior and you will courageously seek to know His heart.  I pray for your legs to be strong and prepared to run with perseverance the race marked out for you.  I pray your feet will always be firmly planted in the truth of Christ and will never waiver from His ordained path for your life.

The burden I feel to pray for you is indescribable.  Just know, you are and always will be covered in your mother's prayers.  Her tears of gratitude as well.

Rhys, you are ours to love.  God answered all of our midnight prayers and gave us you.  We cannot wait to see what God has planned for you.  I believe you are going to change the world.  And we are simply grateful to be able to love, snuggle and pray with you as you do.
