Gratitude Friday…

How about a list this week? I do so love a list. It’s organized. Like all things in life should be.

1. Cheap Vegas Jewelry – During our extensive hotel walking hours, we stopped at many a jewelry store. In case ya’ll didn’t know this, I’m a fan of jewelry. All kinds. Diamonds. Fake diamonds. Gemstones. Colorful rocks. Pearls. Grey pearls. Pink pearls. Off white pearls. Black pearls. Bright white pearls. And turquoise. You get the point. We ran across a fabulous store on day three. I bought a black pearl necklace, an orange stone necklace and another turquoise necklace. Because heaven knows there is no such thing as too much turquoise in a girl’s jewelry box. Or diamonds. But the budget didn’t call for that.

2. Jeans that Fit – So see, this gluten-free thing is not a diet where you’re gonna gain just a ton of weight. There is bread you can eat but blah. There is pasta and it’s okay but nah. There are sweets but a box of banana nut muffin mix costs over eight bucks. Um…nope. Then there’s the whole fear of food. I just never really know, even if something says “Gluten-free” if it really is so if it’s questionable, I just avoid it. That leaves me with a diet of veggies, fruit and protein. And popcorn. Well, I haven’t gained back the weight I lost when I got so sick in November. I gained some in Vegas but lost it when a sudden and unfriendly stomach virus came to visit last week. Leading me to decide, I have to buy jeans that fit. So I did. And I love them.

3. Baby Girl Clothes without Butterflies or Hearts or Flowers – It’s not the easiest thing trying to find understated clothing for babies. I don’t necessarily need my kid’s clothes to be screaming something at everyone. “Mommy’s Sweetheart” or “Daddy’s Girl” or even “Tax Deduction”. That’s sort of like putting a bumper sticker on your car. Some people feel the need to tell you who they are with bumper stickers and some don’t. I don’t. And I also don’t need lots of butterflies or unicorns or hearts all over my daughter’s clothes to tell you she’s a girl. She’ll figure that out on her own soon enough and if a stranger walking by can’t tell, what does it really matter. All that to say, I am very happy I was able to buy her new clothes during Christmas and after-Christmas sales. Cute and understated. Jeans, sweaters, pants, plain onesies. Just clothes.

4. Most Bizarre Christmas Present from My Mom Ever – Mom made us this great “Glendale Bound” basket for Christmas. Had candy for the flights, tried and true Auburn shakers, an Auburn luggage tag and…Auburn thongs. Not flip flops. Underwear. For me. It has to be the smallest pair of undies I have ever seen. Chris, of course, was all for them. Shock. She said she wanted me to wear as much Auburn as possible to the game. Chris said that wasn’t this the smallest amount of Auburn one could wear? So true. But I wore them. And we won. Now I just have to decide if I want to make that part of our Saturday superstition or let it go with a one and done philosophy. I wonder if putting them in my pocket on game day would work the same?

5. Onesie Donation – To say I have been feeling guilty about how many adorably cute onesies I have made for my daughter is an understatement. I’ve made some for friends as well but somehow that didn’t relieve my guilt. So during December I sent out a note to my SS friends and told them for every onesie I made for a gift or for my daughter during Christmas, I would make one to donate to Mission Arlington. I invited them over two different Sundays for a little crafting, snacks and some girl time if they wanted to join me. Several did! And we were able to donate twelve little handmade onesies to Mission Arlington. Doesn’t seem like much but they were made in love. And it’s just the beginning! My heart feels very drawn to the need to provide clothing for children. Not only donated stuff we’ve used and outgrown but new stuff we’ve made or bought just for God’s precious children. I’m praying that God will show me how He wants to use this desire He’s given me. I feel pretty confident He’s got a plan. Doesn’t He always have a plan?

Somewhere around #3, I realized this list was gonna be all about clothing and accessories. Frivolous stuff. I’m aware. But sometimes it’s the little things in life, like a new, cheap pearl necklace that makes you smile. Besides, God provided the means to buy said necklace. He deserves our praise for the smallest of blessings!

Ya’ll have a great weekend!

  2. It may have been the most bizarre christmas present you've gotten from me but at least it was as practicable as the mattress for your 13th birthday! You needed a new mattress and you needed to be 'All In' with our team colors--And It Worked!! :) Mom
