A little over two weeks ago, I arrived at the gym, put my stuff in my locker, climbed to the cardio floor and started my morning run on my treadmill.
It’s “mine” for two reasons. One it’s in the line of the air conditioning vent on the ceiling. And two it’s the closest one to ESPN so I can watch Sportscenter each morning.
But oh Sportscenter, we have been forced apart.
By Fox Sports.
Now I like a good infomercial just as much as the next gal but Fox Sports lost me with the Garden Groomer. Or maybe they lost me with Supple Beverage which apparently has the ability to cure arthritis completely BUT we don’t know about it because the mean, nasty, evil drug companies refuse to sell it. Thankfully, this guy, who is not a medical doctor mind you, is not at all concerned about the possible ramifications of telling the American public about this miracle cure. That’s how much he believes in his product.
I can’t even discuss the Garden Groomer. It involved doing work outside. With hedges or something. Regardless, I am a firm believer in avoiding all forms of yard work so I watched Fox News instead.
And if you know me AT ALL you know I hate Fox News.
Don’t worry. I’m equally disgusted with MSNBC too.
I just have a thing about people yelling at each other.
Then there was one morning I decided to throw caution to the wind and change treadmills so I could see what was on the televisions on the other side of the cardio floor.
That morning I got to watch the local “news”.
During a single 60 minute period, this station aired one story six times. SIX.
The story? A discussion on should Texas allow OU license plates to be sold. I kid you not. They even polled viewers. Text this number for yes and this number for no.
Is anyone shocked it was a landslide victory for NO?
One of the guys they interviewed, and I know this because again, in case you missed it, they aired this story SIX times, said they should keep Oklahoma plates in Oklahoma. This is Texas after all.
Not once did they mention you can buy license plates for about 100 other organizations. Including other universities who are also not in the state of Texas. Like say Auburn which is currently what’s on the back of our two vehicles.
There was another story about public pools. They’re being closed. Because cities are broke. And people are protesting at City Hall. Which begs the questions why are these people not working and since when did having a city funded public pool become a “right”?
And this is why I am devastated to have lost my ESPN.
Because when I watch other stations, I just get irritated.
Of course, I have begun my campaign to have the television returned to its rightful station of ESPN.
I started by telling a trainer. Big muscular guy. He was the first person I found post run that initial morning after Sportscenter mysteriously disappeared.
I plead my case saying Dude, its college football? What am I supposed to do without it?
He found me humorous.
Two days later, with still no change, I told the very nice gentleman at the front desk. He was perplexed because, you see, ESPN is still on the TV’s downstairs in the lobby and in the CafĂ©. Where no one is watching.
Two days after that, I emailed the gym through the website. “Missing ESPN” was the title. I waxed poetically about Hip Hop Abs and P90X being so uplifting but what I need, need I tell ya, is to stay updated on college football.
Two days after that (oh yeah, it’s that important), I decided to call the General Manager. Only to be redirected to the Operations Manager. Who happened to be on vacation.
BUT apparently, these decisions are made by corporate and there’s nothing my personal gym can do about it.
They graciously agreed to log my complaint. With whom I have no idea. And I suspect it doesn’t really matter. I mean, I work for a large corporation. I get it. Heck, I worked for the head guy at my company. What he said was made to happen. I suspect that’s true of this CEO too.
But that does not at all make me happy.
So I may have to consider switching gyms. There’s another 24 hour gym near me.
Because while absence may make the heart grow fonder, being without Sportscenter makes me less found of my gym. And less fond of continuing to pay them every month.

You are hysterical! I personally can't stand that 98% of the t.v.'s in my gym are on sports stations ALL THE TIME. I have no idea what program it is...I usually watch YouTube videos on my iphone. LOL
ReplyDeleteLove your determination and persistence. I hope it all works out!
