Gratitude Friday…

A couple of weeks before Thanksgiving, Chris and I went “looking” at a local baby store. It was recommended to us by a new mom and friend from our Sunday School class. She said they could help educate us on baby “stuff”.

And they did. I believe we spent almost two hours there.

The store was having a huge clearance sale on their nursery furniture. They had more baby furniture than I’d ever seen in one place. It was more than a little overwhelming.

While wondering around, we found this great set. I wanted white because the nursery room is so small. I thought dark furniture might make it seem even smaller. But Chris was a little concerned about white for a boy. We sat and talked and did the math for what seemed like forever. In the end, we decided to wait and see if E was a boy or girl later that week before we made a decision. We knew the set could be gone if we waited, but that was okay.

Fast forward a week and now we know E is a little girl and are completely ready to purchase the white set for her.

Surprisingly, the set was still there and still on clearance. It was the floor model and in amazing shape. And a complete steal. We purchased and high fived our way out the door.

Last Tuesday, the furniture was delivered. I could not wait to get home to see it! And when I got there, Chris already had the room emptied and was ready to start setting it up.

Even better. He’d set up the tripod and camera to take pictures of himself clearing out the room for little E’s new furniture.

My husband is a total rockstar.

So here’s what the room looked like before:

And then here’s the progression of the room as it became E’s nursery:

Finally, the finished pieces are all set up and ready:

The nursery is a flea market theme. We bought that baby quilt on our honeymoon 9 years ago. I purchased the pillows at an antique shop in Birmingham about 4 years ago. And along the way, I’ve been collecting vintage handkerchiefs to make the bed skirt and bumper.

So while there’s a list of things that still need to be done for the nursery, I feel pretty good about where we are now in the process. If there’s no bed skirt when E comes home with us, I feel certain she won’t mind. If I don’t get her initials up over the crib, or hang the flea market plates over the dresser or even get the rocker painted before I place our miracle baby in this room, then so be it.

Because all that is just “stuff”. Decoration. The icing on the cake.

What’s important is that God has given me an amazing husband who is just as excited about our daughter’s arrival as I am. A husband who sets up a tripod and camera so not a moment will be left out of the scrapbook.

I know. Ya’ll are jealous.

Our daughter will have a warm bed in a cozy house. She’ll have a quilt we bought for her just as we began our life as a family and know we wanted her even then. She’ll have 4 loving arms to hold her whether she’s crying, laughing or sleeping. She’ll have our unconditional love forever including all those teenage years when she will be fully convinced we are the dumbest people on the planet.

And she will know, because we will tell her, God gave her to us as a miracle gift.

  5. If ya'll are anything like we were, it will be a while before that baby girl ever sleeps in that crib. I thought Luke would eventually be able to just walk in his room before Stephanie would let him out of her sight. Fortunately, the bassinet we had was too small - so he was forced in by necessity. Luke makes a lot of noise and it's not to easy to fall asleep listening to every sound (even though we waited years to get to hear them).

  6. The nursery looks great! Multiply those 4 arms by several more including grandparents, great-grandmother, aunt, uncle and many more great aunts and cousins. We can't wait to get that wonderful miracle in our arms. Take care and we'll see you in a few weeks. Love, Meme
