About 30 seconds after we got our first beta, I was on Baby Center filling out this Chinese Birth Calendar thing. It was really frustrating at first because it kept asking for Mom’s birthday and for some reason it didn’t have my mother’s birth year listed. Then I realized I was the mother! Well, dang. That’s gonna take some getting used to.
So that calendar said it would be a ….
Then about 8 weeks later, I got some Pei Wei for lunch. Why? Because it was the only thing that didn’t sound awful. I ate about 4 bites and was so done. But that didn’t stop me from opening the fortune cookie. The fortune said “A great man never ignores the simplicity of a child”. Nothing really earth shattering there and honestly, not a fortune either.
But the back of it gave me my lucky word which was…
Chris has this salesman from one of the local music stores who comes by the school. He’s kinda like Santa for musicians. His big red pack is full of reeds, mouthpieces and valve oil. For a price, of course. Which makes him not like Santa at all unless you grew up in my family where our parents told us they had to write Santa a check for the toys he brought. I totally love that idea. Anyway, this guy claims to be able to predict the sex with absolute certainty.
He told Chris we were having a ….
From day one, I was pretty sure we were having one thing and Chris was sure we were having the other. It was not the easiest because while we have a list about 2.34 miles long for one sex, we were totally lost on the other. Chris kept wanting to wait to find a name for the other because why bother if we’re not having one! I wasn’t thrilled with that logic so we finally picked out a name we both liked.
But it turns out we don’t need it because Chris was right.
We’re having a little girl!
I feel confident not a single person reading this actually waited to read that last sentence AFTER reading the rest of it first. So I’ll wait while you go back up to read the stories leading up to that.
We are of course thrilled! We are mostly thrilled because E is healthy and that’s the important part. But ya’ll know having a little boy was pretty scary for me. And then I would look at sweet little Noah getting so overjoyed at having pizza for his birthday and think, I could handle that.
By the time we got to the sonogram, I was really comfortable with either. Honestly. I was totally ready to run out and buy a miniature set of golf clubs so the two men could hit the course together. Still may buy a set for our little girl. But her golf bag will be pink. Or Auburn orange and blue. Or OU red and white. Whatever. I just can’t wait to see what God has in store for this little miracle!
