Gratitude Friday…

Not surprisingly, I’ve been kind of a mess this week. I was flat out so scared. I started thinking about the gratitude list way before Thursday. I wanted to make sure, even in my near panic, that I was still thanking God for the blessings around me. One thing kept popping up. Music.

Chris and I were discussing how many past American Idol contestants are now Christian artists. I am madly in love with Phil Stacey’s song “You’re Not Shaken”. The words are powerful. And so appropriate for those of us longing for families. But the message is, we are to hold on to God because even though we struggle, He is not shaken. Nothing takes Him by surprise. He knows we will struggle and He wants us to cling to Him through every moment of it. And even praise Him.

Then there’s Chris Sligh. Ya’ll remember him? His whole goal on AI was to make David Hasselhoff cry. Now he’s singing this amazing song, “Empty Me”. Seriously, could we ask for me? “Empty me of the selfishness inside, every vain ambition and the position of my pride. Every foolish thing my heart holds to. Oh empty me of me so I can be filled with You.”

And then Mandisa. I know ya’ll remember her because she was a rather large lady and Simon loved to tease her about it. She’s recently lost a lot of weight in an effort to lead a healthier lifestyle. Good for her! But her second Christian album has a fabulous song called “My Deliverer”. It’s so upbeat and joyful. God’s released us for all that held us and kept us from living the life He has planned for us.

Let’s see AI bring these artists back for performances. Not likely.

Through the entire IVF 2.5 process, I kept my radio on The Message and just let the words of these songs and many more wash over me. The music kept me focused and allowed me to praise and worship our Lord. Even on days when I did not get into the car feeling very joyful. I am so grateful these artists are creating music that brings us to a place of worship. Thank you Lord for these amazing musicians.
