Seriously. That’s a lot of writing. True confession, I write most everything in a word doc before I post. I prefer its spell checker and when I get in moods to write, I can write several posts at once. Being able to go back and tweak gives me a fighting chance they might actually sound coherent. I don’t always make that goal but a girl can dream.
So far, I have written…
179 pages
And 70, 668 words.
Yes, you may applaud.
In the fall of 2007, we were living in the smallest apartment ever. We’d just moved down here, put most of our stuff in storage and were saving for our house. Mom came down to visit and when she finished describing the vast wonders of all its 600 square feet to my brother, he asked, but can you see the savings? Yep, everywhere.
It took us one whole hour to clean the place from top to bottom.
Currently, it takes me almost that long just to vacuum the floors.
Let’s just say I had some free time. So I did what any good Evans’ woman would do and caught up on my scrapbooking. I got so caught up in fact that I started making up stuff to scrapbook. I did two pages on “Me” and two pages on “My Husband”. They’re some of my favorite pages now.
On my pages I did lists. I love me some lists.
My Favorite Things, Confessions, Favorite Moments, Favorite Things To Do, Favorite Stuff, My Numbers (like what time I wake up and how tall I am) and My Fears.
I know. That’s a lot of information to digest. That’s why the list is so cool. It’s neat and organized.
My Fears is the shortest one but also the most telling. Someone just flipping through that scrapbook would learn a world about me in those eight things.
One of those fears was never writing. I didn’t specify how I wanted to write or what I wanted to write but I know myself well enough to realize that the likelihood of me becoming a great author is pretty much zilch. I have several outlines and even a couple of things started but I get bored or stuck or I don’t have the time and they end up collecting virtual dust on my hard drive. I’m much more of a short story girl and always have been.
And then about six months later, I started this blog. Straight up honest, I started it thinking we would be pregnant soon and I could use it to share pictures of the beautiful babies we would make. But instead, it became an outlet for me creatively and spiritually while connecting me with my family and friends. Not to mention introducing me to new friends.
What a blessing.
So for my 200th post and for my 45th Gratitude Friday post, I am grateful for the world this blog has opened for me. One fear down. Seven more to go. And through my writing the Lord has changed me. What has He used to change you?

When I first starting delving into the blog world, yours was one of the first I found. Your writing not only changes you, but also the lives of others in such a positive way. I'm so glad you started writing 71,115 words ago!!
ReplyDeleteI'm only 10 posts in, but God is already using the blogosphere to change my attitude and outlook on IF!
I also feel that God has used my blog to change me and show me His blessings. I also feel that infertility has actually been a bit of a blessing in a way, because God has used it to make me a more faithful and compationate person that I may not otherwise be! He works in mysterious ways!!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog!! I know I don't respond like I want but I usually check to read your new stories. You are a gifted writer! That English degree has paid off more than your Dad and I imagined!!
ReplyDeleteI love to read it because I can hear your voice in my mind and it makes you closer to me.
Love, Mom
