Gratitude Friday…

I had a post all written for today. And it was funny. It was about the Cosby Show but that will have to wait for another time. Don’t worry, I’ll be grateful for the Huxtables again soon.

Last night while I was cleaning the kitchen, the hymn “Great is Thy Faithfulness” came to mind. I started humming and then started thinking about the verse. So I finished cleaning and got settled into bed with my bible to look up the verse. I read it and then looked above to read the previous passages.

“I remember my affliction and my wandering,
The bitterness and the gall.

I well remember them,
And my soul is downcast within me.

Yet this I call to mind
And therefore I have hope:

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
For His compassions never fail.

They are new every morning;
Great is your faithfulness.”

Lamentations 3:19-23

Without a doubt, the Lord put the tune in my head to lead me to these verses. How appropriate! And not just for our life but for the lives of my friends and family as well. Linda who’s lost a husband, my father in law who has recently moved his own father into a retirement home, Mrs. Skinny who lost a brother, Mrs. Pack who recently visited her grandmother for what may be the last time. The list could go on. We have all been “afflicted” in some way either through the loss of a loved one or being trapped in a sin we can’t seem to escape or even feeling torn within our own heart about the Lord’s will for our life.

The joy we all have as Christians is that we have hope. Hope because we are loved by our God who created us and has never failed us in any way. He is faithful. His compassion knows no bounds. Every morning He is there with us through every step of our day. Amazing doesn’t even come close to describing it.

As I lay there in bed last night, I said the words of that wonderful hymn as my prayer of thankfulness to our Lord. Oh how I pray you can do the same.

Great is Your faithfulness
Great is Your faithfulness
Morning after morning
New mercies I can see
All I have ever needed
You have provided
Great is Your faithfulness
Lord, to me
