Gratitude Friday…
Good morning and Happy Friday! I have about 3 minutes of quiet in my day before the whirlwind begins. This has been a rather hectic week. One that caused me to long for some much needed rest and sustenance at a Cici’s tonight but then I remembered my husband is a band director and will be spending his night in Wylie, TX at another glorious high school football game. Oh well.
We met with our financial advisor on Wednesday night. We went through our life goals like where we want to live, when we want to retire, etc. Some things we listed were just pipe dreams like starting my own business sometime but most were things like pay for our children’s college. It’s more than a little overwhelming to see the amount of cash we need to stock away but I guess like in everything else in our life, I have faith that the Lord will provide. As long as we continue to follow Him, He’ll give us what we need.
My company sends out a “Quote of the Day” each morning. I keep an email file for them in case I need some inspiration or a laugh. Some of them are Bible verses since, I am very grateful to say, we are a company led by a Christian man. However, some of them are just good thoughts to consider. This week, we all got this one:
Be willing to relinquish the life you've planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for you.”

When we started telling the advisor all the things we hoped for and I guess, are now planning for, I realized it doesn’t matter what we plan. The Lord laid out a plan for our lives before He created a single star. Certainly we need to be good stewards of the gifts He has given us and plan for our future but that’s only the financial part of our lives. Maybe I will start my own business someday. Maybe we’ll move back to the south. Maybe we’ll retire and maybe we’ll love working too much to leave it behind. Not likely but it could happen.
Regardless, this week I realized I am very grateful for two important things:
1. My job which has allowed us to save and plan for our future in ways I feel pretty certain no one thought 2 liberal arts majors would ever be able to do. I don’t deserve what I have been given and in 3 lifetimes I could never thank Linda, my bosses and my Savior for providing these blessings.
2. Our future which is not something I can create or plan. The Lord has taken care of that for us and I am finding myself more and more grateful for that. Sometimes we all want to see a light at the end of our tunnel but I am discovering that I am content to see the light of the sunrise the next day. That’s enough. I am ready to give up the life I’ve always planned for the life the Lord has created.

I hope you all are able to look around you each and every day to see the blessings in your life. I promise there is more to praise the Lord for than there is to ask for. Love to you all!!!
