Merge of Death Soundtrack
Everyone knows I have a traffic-filled, anxiety-inducing, fabulous commute home every evening. I have 2 choices when it comes to making this drive:
1. Leave at 4:55 pm and beat the traffic
2. Leave after 6:00 pm when most everyone’s off the roads
Most days, I’m at the office until 6:00 pm or after so my choice is made for me and the drive is relatively uneventful. However, yesterday I had the opportunity to leave around 5:15 pm. Knowing I was taking a huge risk I decided to brave the unknown and head for the house. Besides, Chris was home for the first time in two nights and I was really, really, really hungry.
I headed out of the parking garage and immediately hit traffic on level 2. Nice. But thankfully, I made it onto the highway in about 10 minutes. That’s not bad.
I settled in and turned on my radio. The cops have been patrolling the highway like gang busters for weeks forcing traffic to go just above the speed limit. All 6 lanes. Except for the lone idiot who is determined to go 90. Anyway, I’m flipping radio stations and stopped on “Dr. Feelgood”.
Don’t even try to tell me you’ve never turned it up and performed your very own air guitar concert. I wouldn’t believe you for one second.
The drive home only got better from there. Really, I don’t know how I lucked into such an outstanding list of songs. Of course, I kept track of them so I could share. For your driving pleasure, I present the soundtrack of my commute:
1. Dr. Feelgood – Motley Crue
2. Smells Like Teen Spirit – Nirvana
3. Sourgirl – STP
4. Wonderwall – Oasis
5. 1999 – Prince
6. Fly Me Courageous – Drivin N Cryin
That last song was actually heard on our way back home from Cici’s but it’s totally worth adding to the list. You can imagine the look of shock on my face when the song came on the radio and Chris said, “Drivin N Cryin!” Okay, who are you and what have you done with my husband? He even remembered when it was popular. Not sure how that song managed to seep into his world of church choir music, Steven Curtis Chapman and DC Talk.
And on a side note, never were truer words sung about teenagers that “Here we are now/Entertain us”.
That was my commute home. A dreaded event that turned out to be okay all because of a local rock station. Lightening doesn’t strike the same place twice so I’m aiming to leave at 4:55 pm today.
