Slacker

Okay, okay. I know, I’ve been a total blog slacker this week. Thanks to Fanny and Chris who made aware of this. They really love me.

I have good reasons for my “slackliness”. Most of those involve an inbox that’s overflowing on my desk, a list of 52 emails that still need to be taken care of, a couple of events to plan (for next week) and a short work week coming up for Chris’ last recital in Norman.

So basically, I’m happy. Busy is happy for me.

And now to the stuff going on. This will be pretty long. Sorry.

Chris worked all day Saturday. I shopped. Bought some great Jessica Simpson shoes. Black linen and 4 inch cork heels. On clearance. Heaven. Sunday, I pretty much forced Chris to take me on a date. We did Mexican, the mall and saw “Narnia”. I wore those great Jessica Simpson shoes right up until I bought another pair at Payless because the blisters on the back of my heels were killing me. Jessica is now on my shelf.

I highly recommend you avoid her shoes. I bought a fabulous pair of green wedges from her line too. I took them back after walking around in my bathroom for 3 minutes gave me a blister on my toe. Shop at your own risk.

Narnia was good. I had low expectations because the parents didn’t care for it but really, I liked it. The story line doesn’t connect as much as the first but that’s for obvious reasons. Regardless, it was enjoyable and I’m glad saw it. I think even Chris was happy we went on the date.

Monday was our first big event at our new building. We hosted a Board meeting for a foundation and then an employee event immediately following. I was pretty happy with the way it all turned out and thrilled to be back in event planner mode.

But I was wiped. I was on my feet from 2:00 pm until 10:30 pm. I got up at my usual 4:30 am, ran 3 miles (short because I had a lot to do at the office), got to work by 7:00 am and then worked right up until I left in a hurry for our new building. The girl I was meeting got her Eastern and Central time zones mixed up and therefore showed up at the building an hour early.

That was an important hour in the office and thus SITTING down that I missed.

Here’s a picture for you. I think this sums up how I felt. Sarcastically giddy.

On Tuesday, I met a fellow SEC fan. I pulled in to the gas station on my way home from work. I was driving the truck so Chris could take the car to OK for rehearsals and he was kind enough to leave it almost on empty. He apparently doesn’t have the same fear I do of being stranded on the side of the road with no gas.

Anyway, as I’m filling the truck a nice man dressed in head to toe camo was filling up his gigantic truck next to me. I try to avoid eye contact with people I believe are carrying guns in their vehicles but unfortunately this does not always deter them from speaking. As I turn to look at the pump, he ever so subtly blurts out at me:

“You an Auburn fan?”

Okay, now go back and read that with a deep-south-small-town-sure-‘nough-red-neck accent. Continue.

I politely responded, “An Auburn grad, so yes, I’m a fan.”

He says, “Ah, I hate Auburn.”

At this point, I firmly believe I’ve encountered an Alabama fan. He fits the profile.

I say, “So sorry to hear that.”

“Yeah, well, they always beat my Florida Gators.”

It took me almost a full 3 seconds for me to recover. Rude, camo, big truck, accent. A Florida fan?

I then remembered the lovely gentlemen we met at a McDonald’s in Clanton on our way to an Auburn/Florida football game when I was a teenager. They were making fun and my very classy, sweet, highly-educated, mature mother yelled back,

“Oh yeah! Where’d you get your college degree!!?!?!?”

My father instructed us to get in the car. Quickly.

Anyway, back to the story.

“Yes, well, we do tend to do that sometimes.”

“Yeah, I thought for sure we’da gotchya last year.”

“That was a good game.”

I made the split second decision not to tell him the only reason we won that game was because I stood in the same exact spot in our 650 square foot apartment with the dish towel in my left hand every time we had possession. I attempted to move a couple of times with disastrous consequences so I opted not to tempt fate and stayed in one spot. We have a long history of such things. I remember one Auburn/LSU game specifically when we made Mrs. Mullis go to the bathroom every time we had the ball. That game was also an Auburn victory.

The conversation continued on for a few more lines and I said something about sneaking up on Florida several times. And he said more about how much he hates us. We ended on a good note, however, by sharing mutual “Good luck this season” crap.

Ahh...good times.

Yesterday was just playing catch up from Monday and Tuesday. I did get some gorgeous flowers from the Board we hosted on Monday night. I love thank you flowers. And we ate Cici’s for dinner. No one can be blue while eating Macaroni & Cheese pizza. Seriously. It’s yummy.

That’s all for now! I’ll be back tomorrow!
