Gratitude Friday

Wow. What a week it has been. However, all in all, not bad. I had one day of true sadness but the rest I can happily report have been joyful. I am tired and thanks to long days and even longer nights of crazy dreams (seriously, some are down right Freudian), the house is a mess, I’m a week behind on laundry and my poor husband even had to cook last night. The Horror!!!

Here we go:

1. Lucky Charms – Growing up, we were not allowed to have sugary cereals. We could eat all the Crispix and Chex (any “flavor”) we wanted. There was Raisin Brand and Cheerios and Corn Flakes too. Sometimes Apple Jacks and Frosted Flakes made a cameo appearance but that’s as far as we could go on the “sugar scale”. My brother may remember some others or disagree with me entirely since I think the parents got much more slack about things after I went to college. Anyway, now that I’m an adult (as determined by the amount of money we pay for insurance each month), I have 2 rules about food. I eat cereal, whatever kind I’m craving, once a day and I don’t eat green beans. Today I was craving Lucky Charms so I pulled over to the Walgreens and bought myself a box. Fabulous. Who wouldn’t love marshmallows in milk? And all the shapes? They are, in fact, magically delicious.

2. My job – The Lord gave me my job. Of that I am 110% positive. Not every day is heaven sent but every day is blessed. It allowed me to support Chris through four years of grad school. It paid for my car, our beautiful house, my shoe collection and our trips home. And, in this week alone, I met Mr. Movie Star, attended an arts festival and went to a cattle drive. Yep. Fort Worth is the only city IN THE WORLD who holds twice daily (because once is never enough) cattle drives through the stockyards. They’ve been doing it since dirt was new so no need to mess with tradition. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

3. Modern Medicine – I find it absolutely amazing the kinds of things doctors can do these days. They are completely disproving #2’s quote about fixing things that aren’t broken. We may not even realize what’s broken! Yes, there are symptoms but sometimes, there are no symptoms and sometimes things are still broken. Now they just do a simple test, poke at you a couple of times and say, we can fix it. How about next Tuesday? Fascinating.

4. Shelter – Last night we experienced something I know I’ve never heard. We have a wall of windows in our living room and some pretty big ones in our bedroom as well. As the thunderstorm rolled through, the hail and driving rain hitting all those windows was so loud Chris and I were yelling at each other just to communicate. Okay, communication is a strong word. We were really running around trying to find the car keys to get the vehicles in the new, fancy garage (pictures coming next week of fancy garage). Chris was completely soaked but we got some cool pictures. Think about this though. How many times do you really thank God for the shelter your house provides? Thank you Lord.

5. The Metroplex – Okay, so most days it’s hard to be grateful about living in the 9th largest metropolitan area in the nation. There’s traffic and traffic and still more traffic. Yuck. I love living in an area with a large outlet mall. I hate driving an hour to get there. However, there are benefits. Great restaurants, great museums, great radio stations but most of all great airports. There’s a large airport to take you any where in the world you want to go and a smaller airport to take you any where in the US you want to go. Non-stop. It can take me from Texas to my precious nephew in Alabama in less than 2 hours. Seriously, it doesn’t get much better.

  1. Now that I have officially been introduced to your blog, I will dutifully leave comments for you. It's kind of like getting mail. :-) And who knows, since I have some extra time on my hands this summer, I may decide to start my own...just because I can. Anyway, I just wanted to point out that you spelled restaurant right in this post, too. Wahoo!!
