Gratitude Friday

I know, you guys thought I'd forgotten but no.  I just needed to wait until the end of the day today.  Sometimes you need a full day to think about things.  Today was that day for me.

1. Totino's Pizza - Our lives are fairly busy.  This week was no exception.  Not once did I arrive home before 7:00 pm.  Chris even had to cook again.  That's two weeks in a row.  Needless to say there are nights when my 12 hour work day takes it toll and I just flat out don't feel like wearing the domestic goddess apron.  In those rare occasions (okay, maybe not so "rare" but go with it for now), I call on the good old stand by, Totino's pizza.  It's completely devoid of any nutritional value.  But the good news is that it is still less than a buck which is the same price it was when we got married 7 years ago.  To recap:  Fast?  Check.  Transfat filled?  Check.  Cheap?  Check.  What's not to love?

2.  Mr. & Mrs. Fanny Pack - We were sitting in church last Sunday morning and apart from admiring the zoo drummer, we were busy talking about our impression of the church when I had an Ah-Ha moment.  Chris said, "Well, I probably won't find someone to talk with about opera."  And there it is.  Part of the reason we may have been having such a hard time committing to a church is because our friends aren't there.  I talked to Fanny this week for an hour and a half which was on a separate night from Chris and Mr. Pack keeping their rock dreams alive playing "Guitar Hero" online.  They are the first couple in our lives who like us for just being us.  We never feel we have to prove anything to them or impress them or even be careful what we say.  And we love them right back.

3.  White Linen Pants - Call me old fashioned but I only wear white pants or white shoes or white skirts between Easter and Labor Day.  Sorry, it's just the way I am.  In fact the only exception to the self imposed white restriction is a white tee shirt or tank top.  Those are essentials all year round.  So of course, I love to wear those pants, shoes and skirts like crazy while I can.  I love them all but there's just something simple, clean and elegant about white linen pants.  I feel beautiful and fancy in them.  They make a green tee shirt pretty instead of lazy.  They make my legs look a million miles long which is never a bad thing.  And they have to be purchased new every year sense dry cleaning makes them yellow.  Pretty, leggy and new.  Can't beat that.

4. Mrs. JT - My dearest friend called today.  We haven't talked or emailed for almost a month.  Life gets in the way sometimes and we've both been busy.  But she remembered today was an important day for us and she called.  We met sometime in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd grade.  I can't really remember.  We had a mutual friend and here we are a really, really, really long time later still friends.  She knows all, and yes, I mean all, my secrets.  I can tell her anything and she'll support and love me through it.  No one else gets us like we get us.  She's my sister and I love her.

5.  The beach - No where else do I feel closer to the Lord than at the beach.  Regardless of the other people or maybe because of the other people, I always feel His presence while listening to the tide come in and go back out.  When we lived on the coast, I would spend hours there on my day off praying and reading.  Thankfully, another very dear friend found a little peace there this past week as well.  She spent the week with friends and loved ones on a coastal vacation.  I had the opportunity to have lunch with her yesterday and my heart was truly grateful to the Lord for the rest He provided her while there.  We have no ability to control the tide and because of that we are reminded how little control we have over our own lives.  The Lord is in control and He knows what we need even if we want something completely different.

Anyone else finding this addicting?  The pastor this Sunday said, "Bitter people are not thankful and thankful people are not bitter".  No matter how many things I find to be grateful for, there are a million more.  The Lord is good.
