"Once I read a story about a butterfly in the subway, and today, I saw one! It got on at 42nd and off at 59th, where, I assume, it was going to Bloomingdales to buy a hat that will turn out to be a mistake, as almost all hats are." ~ Kathleen Kelly
Today was the 100th Day of School.
I don't remember this being a thing in school. But, then again, I, one, don't remember a whole lot from kindergarten and two, school might have only been 100 days long back then.
You know, right after the surface of the earth cooled.
I've kinda been dreading this day all year. Last year, I took note that the kindergarteners got dressed up as 100 year olds. It was super cute. They went all out too. Gray hair and all.
But as a reminder, my precious, miracle daughter prefers NOT to wear costumes.
Of any kind.
Unless it's a princess dress. And then we are ALL IN.
(Eye roll.)
But February.
Aubrey Kate's class had three birthdays, the school had their 30th birthday celebration and the 100th Day of School.
Her teacher's exact words were, "That just should never happen."
So I THINK the teachers took a look at the calendar, looked at each other and said, "Yeah. That's not gonna work."
And I gave them loving hugs.
Instead of dressing up as 100 year olds, the kids made funny hats with 100 dots on them. When I reminded AK that today was the 100th day, her ENTIRE BEING slumped over. It was humorous. Really, y'all, it's hard not to laugh at her oh so much of the time.
(For instance, during clean up tonight, Rhys was being his usual unhelpful self and she comes out of the room to proclaim, "I think we have a tired boy on our hands.")
(Dying.)
(Five going on 45.)
(My girl.)
I had not heard WORD ONE about the paper hat until this exact moment. She explained it to me and then we discussed the approximate length of time she would need to be actually wearing said paper hat. That seemed to appease her. At least she forgot about it long enough to get in the car without moping.
Mom for the win.
After school, I got to see THE HAT. She seemed relatively excited about the hat and her snack of 100 things and her 100 days sticker. But once we got home, she changed her tune.
I asked her to wear her hat for a picture to send to the grandparents.
Quote, "Why would they want to see a picture of me in a ridiculous paper hat?"
I bribed her for a smile. Because bribery works and I have no shame.
As we were cleaning out her daily folder and we found this gem. She would never want 100 hats.
Clearly.
Apparently, Aubrey Kate and Kathleen Kelly are in total agreement here. All hats are mistakes.
(Please tell me everyone knows Kathleen Kelly.)
(Better yet, if you don't know, don't tell me.)
And to end this post on something overwhelmingly adorable...
Sunny and 60 degrees = jacket, rain boots and umbrella.
Because Spider-Man.
Well I know the movie. One of my favorites! I don't even know how many times I've seen it. At least 40. I can be obsessive about something's like movies, Oreo's, Fig Newtons and lemons. Yuck! That's all food.
ReplyDeleteLove the kiddos pics! I love 100th day of school too. Love you most.
Oh that first picture. It's too much. Best thing I've seen all day!!
