Home Skillet woke up at 6:03 am this morning. I know because he coughs when he wakes up. Thankfully, he stayed in his room until after Chris had left for school.
At 6:32 am.
So when Rhys busted up into our room, things were all dark. Had he come in at 6:04, he would have seen the bathroom light on and thought it was time to get up. With everything dark, I could convince him it was still sleeping time. Handed him his milk and sent him back to bed.
Where he slept zero more minutes.
But it gave me enough time to get dressed and eat a couple of bites of breakfast.
Aubrey Kate slept until about 7:45 am and that's a little early for her. But it was a full 12 hours. I can't argue with that.
We loaded up today and headed to Paradise Pond. Our monthly sojourn to Grapevine and the mecca of Princess dresses.
The kids had a blast. As always. It's the best three dollars I spend every month. Since it was freezing and drizzling rain, it was a perfect day to stay indoors and jump on a bounce house.
Today was a new Rhys. He played with everything so well. And mostly on his own. He played with the Lego train set for 20 minutes solid. Usually, he's a little scattered. He plays with the cars for 10 minutes and then just runs from one station to the next. Not so today.
No idea if that was because he was exhausted but because he is growing up. Either way, thumbs up. I got to simply sit back and soak him up.
Aubrey Kate had a fairly good time with the dress up clothes. There was some stress over gloves and dresses that were too long. Not enough stress for her to take them off, mind you. Just enough to complain about them. She did ride this little roller coaster type thing. About a zillion times. For the most part, she was by herself doing that so, you know, INTROVERT BLISS.
After The Pond, we headed to McDonald's.
Don't judge me.
My goal was pretty simple. Wear them slap out.
We stayed for an hour or so. Ate, played, ate a little more and left. Rhys yawned all the way home. I thought for sure he'd take a nap. Gave him his milk and a stack of books for quiet time. Both are sleep triggers.
But, Over-tired? It's a mean beast. No nap.
After that, they watched a movie and ate a snack. Towards the end of the movie, Rhys got a ball and started running around the house throwing it and chasing it. A classic over-tired act.
Also known as Golf. You have the ball. You hit the ball. You chase the ball. You have the ball...
Golf.
Rhys was just using a beach ball. Same concept.
When we do a trip in the morning, we do the gym/Kids' Park in the afternoon. We loaded up and hit the road at 4:15 pm. Rhys did NOT want to go. He cried and stuck out his bottom lip and every 30 seconds or so, he'd flap his arms down on his legs with a "huff!'
4:17 pm...asleep.
We got to the gym and stayed in the parking lot for a little while. Aubrey Kate and I talked about our date on Saturday. She expressed her interest in having ice cream on our date.
After a while, I tried to wake Rhys up.
Not. Happening.
Home Skillet was OUT.
Aubrey Kate and I laughed about it. So we set out on a little afternoon drive. She hates just driving around. I had snacks and juice which helped for a few minutes but eventually, she resorted to grunting and whining. Rhys slept about 45 minutes. He woke up screaming, "I WANNA SLEEP!"
Um, yeah. We know.
We came home, any thoughts of a workout long gone, and watched a show while I made dinner.
Mac'n Cheese and strawberries.
Don't judge.
But Rhys never ate. I think he was too exhausted to eat. Even typing that doesn't make it seem any more real to me. Can that even be a THING? When I'm exhausted, I'm all about some chocolate and caffeine. Then again, I'm all about those things all the time.
Anyway, this is an exhausted Rhys. I mean, he is one more early morning wake up from being catatonic.
Now, I realize, 6 am doesn't seem that early for little people. But my kids don't nap. So they need 12 hours of sleep at night. Usually, Rhys gets that. And if he doesn't, he'll simply collapse during quiet time. Not this time, though.
He cried all the way through his five minute bath. Another over-tired activity. Cutting bath time short, equalled an especially early bed time. 7:15 pm.
Currently, AK's in her room playing. But Rhys is OUT.
At some point, he's gonna have to sleep. Right? RIGHT?!?!
