Soooo...welcome to Potty Training Boot Camp.
I'll look away while you back out of the room slowly.
Man alive, have I been dreading this. Rhys has been ready for 6 weeks AT LEAST. More like 2 months. He tells me when his diaper is wet. Or when he thinks it's poopy. Which, most of the time, it's not so he's mistaking his poots for poops.
One letter difference.
But the BEST has been during quiet time. When he takes his poopy diaper off.
O.F.F. OFF.
Sometimes he sits down on the carpet afterward. At least once, he's taken the diaper off in advance and just straight pooped on the floor.
Let's just say poop + quiet time = NOT QUIET TIME
We considered training during Thanksgiving when we were home. Even bought the training pants and pull-ups then. But we both quickly realized neither of us wanted to stay home the entire stinkin' week for boot camp.
Plus there was the whole 12 hour car ride home coming up.
No thanks.
So we decided to do it this week. Chris has been mostly home working on re-writing the musical (which I mentioned earlier) and since I am firm believer in sharing misery, I wanted him around.
Not to mention, he has the proper equipment. I don't.
What we have figured out in two days is this...
...He has no problem...LIKE ZERO...going potty all by himself when he needs to when he's NAKED.
Wearing underwear and pants, he has an accident every.single.time.
Our thought is the underwear feels like a diaper. Thus it gets peed in.
Hopefully, he'll figure out how to do it wearing clothing. And soon. Otherwise, it's gonna be a long life. FOR ALL OF US.
So my gratitude list this week kinda centers around said Potty Training.
1. Grateful Chris was home. We've divided and, well, not conquered but survived. I took AK with me to the run some errands and to the gym yesterday and he watched them both while I ran today. It's nice to have help.
2. Grateful the kids got Skittles in their stockings because those have been our "Sit on the Potty" reward. The timer goes off every 10 minutes. He most certainly doesn't want to stop what he's doing every ten minutes but for a Skittles, he's mostly agreeable.
3. Grateful for the gift of ABCMouse.com AK got from Meme and Buddy. She spent three hours in her room TODAY playing the games. Once she masters a skill level, she gets tickets. She can go shopping with those tickets to buy things for her avatar's room. Today she bought her a pink princess canopy bed and red sparkly slippers.
4. Grateful for a working washer and dryer. Self-explanatory there.
5. And drum roll....Grateful he went poopy in the potty today. Twice. No one likes to clean up poopy underwear.
I keep reminding myself of the words the sweet lady said at the grocery store...
"He'll survive it. And so will you."
Praise Jesus, potty training is a brief period. We all have to endure it. But we will survive it.
