We Don't Know Our A, B, C's, BUT...

...we have all of our tools totally down pat.

Sure, we can't count to ten but our miter saw ROCKS.

And, straight up, Home Skillet took his HAMMER to nap today.

He's walking around the house, carrying his tools, wearing his tool belt around his neck (because WHY NOT), and telling everyone he's going to WORK.

The preciousness is almost unbearable.

He started off the day not entirely sure about the whole unwrapping presents thing.  We'd been telling him all day Friday his birthday party was the next day.  He kept telling us it was Buddy's birthday party.  Which Buddy was completely on board with but only had there been real tools in the boxes.  Thankfully, Rhys thinks these are the REAL tools.

He played quite blissfully with his work bench and tools but he did stop for some reading too.

Again, with the preciousness.  I love that he loves to read.  I love that he sits himself down and "reads" to himself.  Eat.Him.Up.

While we made some homemade ice cream and grilled out, Rhys had a blast playing on the new slip n'slide.  (Disclaimer:  If you don't like naked baby boy bottoms, look away.)

We have a slight slope in our yard.  Which is perfect for sending naked two year old boys flying down the slip n'slide.  Chris helped with the "sliding" part.  Rhys giggled up a storm.

Since this was a simple party with only grandparents, I didn't really decorate.  I figure last year's first birthday craziness should count for at least two years.  But I did get out some fun serving dishes.  And a chalkboard.

Plus, did I mention homemade ice cream?!?!?

Picture because this moment needed to be documented.
I think we've used this thing twice in 14 years.

Strawberry cake.  If you asked him what kind of cake he wanted, he'd say anything from chocolate to strawberry to lemon.  He didn't know.  Did.Not.Know.  So I decided for him.  Cause that's just the type of loving mother I am.

It was (and is) super yummy.

Nana and Puddin' got him a picnic table.  I thought it would be great for playing outside in good weather and inside during bad weather.  Never really occurred to me we would be initiating the FIRST KIDS' TABLE!  Yes m'am!  They ate down there.  And we ate up there and LIFE WAS GOOD!

We sang Happy Birthday and about half-way through, he realized we were singing to him.  He started grinning from ear to ear.  Look at that sweet face.  Sissy had to help him blow out the candles.  He wasn't so sure about that part.  And she was only too happy to help.

After all that, it was nap time.  For everyone in the house.  Rhys slept almost two full hours.  That's unheard of for him.  The rest of us slept too.  Puddin' just happened to the first to reach OUT status.

All in all, a life was well-celebrated.  Rhys, you are a treasure.  We love our life with you.  Thank you, Lord, for trusting him to us.
