Visited by the Spirit of Honey Boo Boo...

First, I believe it is important for me to go on record as saying I have never seen a single episode of Honey Boo Boo.

Nor Jersey Shore.

It's not like that's a source of pride for me or anything.

Okay.  Yes, yes, I'm totally proud of that.

Don't worry.  I watch plenty of absolute fluff.  Like anything about weddings.

However, even if I have managed to avoid an entire episode of Honey Boo Boo, I have seen her on various promos for talk shows when she made the rounds in the fall.  Her show is apparently a huge hit.

Obviously, you are ridiculously curious as to how her spirit came to visit us here in the Evans' house.

Saturday morning, Aubrey Kate woke up speaking fluent red neck.

Like a miracle of the Duck Dynasty variety.

(Also a show I've never seen.)

She took one syllable words, added a "y," and created two syllable words.

"Thay-yat"

"Ouy-out"

"Houy-youse"

"Hely-yelp"

I noticed it right away.  But when she said, "Yeay-yeah" to me in response to a question I had asked her, I almost lost it.

One, I am not a fan of the word "yeah" in general but pronounce it in a red neck accent, and, well, I might go a little reck neck myself.

Had she woken up with a true Southern accent, I would have gladly sat down and listened to her talk all day long.  The CBS news did a report on Shelby County last night and they interviewed an attorney who had the most beautiful Southern accent.  Melodic, slow, gentle.

Made me more than a little homesick.

But that's not the accent she was giving me.

I have absolutely zero clue where she picked this up.  I've met all the kids in her class at school.  Not a single accent among them.  None of our friends either.  Most everyone we've met in Texas even has a pretty bland mid-western accent.

Including us.

Yes, I realize we grew up in Alabama.  I'll admit we likely have a slight accent in some of our words but honestly, we're incredibly boring.  People from other parts of the country who meet me always comment on my lack of an accent.

Our small group leader is a nurse practitioner.  His medical opinion was to ignore it entirely.

That's easier said than done.

So here we are on day five.  And the spirit of Honey Boo Boo continues to live on.

Anyone have any other advice?  I need to do an exorcism soon and get this spirit out of my house.

  1. So sad. Apparently AK has found another button to push on the Mommy radar. Toddlers are so much fun. Then later they become teenagers. Hopefully this is as bad as it gets.
