Since I can't find the cord for the real camera...

Took a good many pictures of Easter. But I can't find the cord to plug the camera into the computer. Which means the photos are in camera prison.

I call them "in theory" pictures.

In theory, we have pictures of our favorite little girl in her precious Easter dress playing and hunting for eggs at our dear friend's house.

But not in reality. Because we all know that unless it goes on the blog or in a scrapbook, it didn't actually happen.

So instead, I'm sharing a few photos, and the story, of my rock star husband's latest project.

As a reminder, I saw this house, the house we now live in, about a month before we saw it again with Chris. It was a rental house and to say it was a disaster is an absolute understatement.

Think the Delta Tau Chi house after a toga party.

With crayon on the walls.

I couldn't even imagine living here. But another month in 600 square feet and my standards were slowly dropping. We came back and it was a completely different house.

New paint, new carpet, new fixtures. And it had been cleaned.

However, the paint they used was just your standard builders flat khaki. On the walls and the ceiling.

Once we painted the living areas my new favorite color of grey, the ceiling looked Horrible.

Me being me, I would likely have let the ceiling remain in said horrible state. Me before Aubrey Kate would have done it all in a weekend. But life is different with a toddler and a growing belly.

Chris, however, did not want to let the ceiling stay as is. Honestly, he's in the best/craziest/never seen it in a guy pre-baby nesting state ever.

It. Is. Awe. Some.

So far, he's painted the bonus room ceilings and walls, painted the ceiling in the stairway, entry way, dining room and is moments away from being done in the living room/kitchen.

I know you can't really tell from the bad camera phone pictures, but the ceiling is going from khaki flat to semi-gloss bright white.

Right. So likely in fancy interior designer schools, they teach a whole class on ceilings and likely they also teach you shouldn't really put semi-gloss bright white on them. But the thing with this house is there's no really nice natural light. The largest windows in the living area are on the sides of the house which are just a few feet from the fence and the neighbor's house just a few feet beyond that. We don't actually get any direct sunlight into the house.

Honestly, it's pretty dark in here.

We painted the walls a semi-gloss too thinking it would A) be easier to clean when sticky hands touched them (although I really try and stay on top of the stickiness) and B) it might help what little light we do have bounce around a little more.

It worked.

If it works there, why not on the ceiling too?

Totally logical.

And we really love it. The dining room is just stunning. Can't wait to post pictures of the whole place once everything is done.

Based on how fast the belly is growing, that will be sooner rather than later.

Thanks, babe, for working so hard!

  3. Ha! No, it's his athletic shorts. Did we call them Umbros? He's had them since, oh, well, before I met him I guess. They are far too short to wear out in public so he wears them to do stuff like mow the lawn and paint the ceiling. He has fancy, and long, athletic shorts to wear for stuff like band camp and afternoon rehearsals.
