So.
There's a first birthday party coming up.
It's just family. Although it does cover two weekends. Because Aubrey Kate's family casts a wide net, as Linda would say, and not everyone can make it the same weekend.
Somehow I think my kid will grow up feeling like she's the center of the universe.
And let's face it. She is.
In preparation, I have been planning and then decorating for weeks. That followed a great deal of internet searching which left me feeling pretty much completely inept to plan said first birthday party.
Geez. People go crazy.
And for a brief moment, I let a fear creep in of Pumpkin one day feeling like she was not as special as others just because her mommy was not able to buy all matching stuff centered around a princess theme.
A few deep breaths later, I realized that if this girl doesn't know how loved she is, it will have zippo to do with the amount of cash I did or did not drop on Etsy homemade party items.
My failings as a mother will be much more far reaching than that.
So while I will undoubtedly fail at something mother related, like putting her shoes on the correct feet (yeah, totally put them on wrong yesterday), I imagine it won't be at giving her as much love as possible.
Crisis of feeling unloved averted, I decided to do a simple theme of "Spring".
Breaking news right? It's Spring.
And whatever I make for her this year will likely work next year since her birthday will fall in Spring every year.
I figure I've got one more year of her going with what I want before she realizes she has opinions about home decor and party planning different from her mommy.
By age three, I will likely be forced to throw some Disney Princess theme party because she will have discovered my zealous disgust of the whole princess thing.
But this year, it's all about what I want. Yay me!
There's still a lot to be done. Especially in the area of cleaning. Somehow I mop every other day and yet the kitchen floor seems to always be sticky. Some of that I can blame on Pumpkin and some of that blame belongs to my sweet husband. Do you know how hard Kool-aid is to get out of grout?
I went with the now tried and true process of decorating the candles. Why? Because after years of overspending on scrapbooking supplies, I find I can decorate for free using scraps.
Free = awesomeness.
The rest of the stuff I already had. Like too much ribbon. Also a consequence of spending too much.
Is there a twelve step program for Over Crafters Anonymous?
Anyway, enjoy and there'll be more photos post birthday party!

A) I find it humorous that you call her pumpkin when she is a spring baby.
ReplyDeleteB) You need a dog. They are like automatic mops.
C) You will never be able to avoid princess themes. Unless you lock her in a windowless room with no TV, books, internet, human contact. You can't escape it. EVER. I just like to remind my pricesses that royalty is kind and sweet and gives to the poor and helps those in need. Try GiGi: God's little Princess. Also I remind them that pricesses do not fart on each other and throw full on man punches in between ripping out each others' hair. Princesses are ladies dangitalltohades!!
Also one year for Lily's birthday her theme was "purple". Simply because I was so worn out of birthday parties. It sucks to be the youngest. Apparently.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this! And LOVE Angela's coments, they almost made me pee my pants...not hard to do these days :) You are one of the most creative people I know, it will be perfect!
ReplyDeleteLooks great. Can't wait to see y'all. Give hugs all around until we can get there.
