RSV came calling.
Starting Saturday night, Pumpkin got snotty with coughing and general fussiness. Between Chris and I, we got up eight times to comfort baby back to sleep. Sunday morning I made the decision not to take her to church. I just wasn't sure the other kids in nursery needed to be exposed to the snottiness.
Good call.
By Sunday night, Chris was doing his best to take care of a sick baby and a wife who managed to glutenate herself with a gluten-free breakfast casserole.
Yep. I made it. And IT made me sick. I'm blaming the hash browns. They weren't my usual organic brand with that fabulous G-free label but I'd read the ingredients on the other and it seemed safe.
Apparently not.
Anyway, Chris called a sub for Monday and I called to get her an appointment with the doctor.
The verdict was RSV and ear infection number nine.
Last night was the hardest night of my life. My baby's temperature got up past 103. She was burning up. Her cheeks were so flushed. She couldn't sleep or if she did fall asleep, she'd wake herself up and immediately start crying. We didn't want to hold her because we just made her hotter but she needed to be comforted.
It was awful.
Thankfully, Mrs. Eartha was at home baking cookies so I could get some ER nursing advice. We striped Pumpkin down to her diaper, wiped her down with a cold wash cloth and tried some Motrin instead of the Tylenol. Finally, around 4:00 am, her fever went down and she could rest.
I've done a lot of checking on my daughter over the past nine months just to see if she was breathing. No reason why she wouldn't be but I just liked to see it for myself.
Over the past 24 hours, we've watched her breathing to make sure it didn't become labored or even worse, just stop.
But the Lord is good. And today, she napped on the couch and miraculously felt well enough most of the afternoon to play. Even giggled some. Of course, the giggles turned into coughs but they were the prettiest giggle-coughs I've ever heard.
Isn't RSV the worst?!
