Decorating for the season…

Last Saturday there were some football games being played.

Ya’ll knew that, right?

Specifically, the SEC Championship Game and the Big 12 Championship Game.

Were it not for some parade in Dallas benefiting a children’s hospital, we would have been in Atlanta. Or at least Chris would have been.

Be on the lookout for the parade. It’s supposed to be televised nationally. Not sure when but my guess is sometime after midnight on your local access channel. Those of you with new babies might actually have a good shot of seeing it.

With Chris gone Saturday morning, Pumpkin and I had the house to ourselves.

Which means one thing.

Time to clean.

What? You were expecting something exciting? Please. Ya’ll know me by now. Cleaning IS exciting! And with Game Day on in the back ground and my adorable daughter playing on the floor with her toys, it was so stinkin’ close to a perfect morning.

Bliss really.

So I had already been planning to have a little indoor tailgate with the menu. I had cookies, biscuits, BBQ chicken, potato salad I made Friday night (because Chris believes warm potato salad is why the Germans lost the war) (yes, he says that every time, like he’s 92 years old) (and no, it’s really not that funny but thinks he’s funny) (let’s hear it for delusional!), chips and grapes. No cheese. The “enzymes” make me sick. Why is that? Who really needs “enzymes” in their cheese anyway?

By late morning, I had finished cleaning in record time. It’s amazing how fast I can get things done these days.

Really, what’s amazing is how much time I managed to waste in all the years before Pumpkin was born. What was I doing all day?

Anyway, I decided to pull out all our Auburn blankets, snuggies and stuffed Aubies to decorate the living room.

Yes, I said snuggies. And yes, I used them to decorate. Don’t hate.

Then I went all Martha Stewart and made an orange and blue banner for the mantel and changed out all my candles for orange or white ones with navy ribbons tied around them. I had so planned to pull in our lawn chairs to sit in the living room but the couch seemed more comfy.

To prove how dedicated I was, I even opened the Auburn napkins I’ve been carting all over the country for years saving them for that special Auburn moment. When that was gonna be, I have no idea. But I think the SEC Championship game when everyone spent all week talking about how SC was a much improved team seemed like a special enough Auburn moment.

I changed Pumpkin into her orange and blue attire. Made sure Chris’ lucky Auburn shirt was clean and laid out for easy accessibility and then had just enough time to take a shower and throw on my own orange outfit by kickoff.

Then we proceeded to watch an amazing Auburn victory.

Oh well for “much improved”. The old ball coach just didn’t get it done.

After that, we watched what we feel is a true miracle.

OU coming back from a 17 point deficit. To win.

The next morning as we were getting dressed for church in every orange and blue piece of clothing the three of us own, we were discussing the OU game and how this is NOT AT ALL the OU team of old. This is a new team. A team that comes back from being behind. I’ve never met this OU team.

Hello! Welcome to college football Sooners!

Now we are anxiously awaiting the announcement of the Heisman trophy winner this Saturday night and planning our trip to Glendale.

In the meantime, the house will remain decorated for Auburn victories. I see no reason to mess with a good thing. The grandmothers will have their houses decorated for Christmas and that will have to do this year. My house looks AUsome in orange and blue. Snuggies and all.

  3. Those Auburn Snuggies turned out to be great gifts! I used mine a lot last winter. I need to go get them out. I am glad you have your decorating priorities straight! I thought about making an Auburn wreath. Or at least flying an Auburn flag. But I was afraid of retaliation around these parts.

  4. Warm potato salad may not be the ONLY reason Germany lost WWII, but it is certainly in the top 3! LOL.
