Darn diet.
I miss food.
Several months ago as Mrs. Eartha and I were discussing her upcoming baby shower she mentioned she really wanted a diaper cake. She thought they were so cute.
And then I had a baby.
About two weeks out from her shower, I remembered that conversation and immediately thought, well, okay, perhaps I should get on that.
Praise the Lord I actually remembered the conversation. I swear that was divine.
Thankfully, Mrs. JT was due to arrive the next week and she is the Queen of Showers. Really. She should have business cards printed. She made me a fabulous diaper cake for my shower. Fab-u-lous. She agreed to help me do Mrs. Eartha’s.
We started slow but eventually figured it out. This is not an easy process. It takes hours. By the time Mrs. JT had left, we had two layers done on the largest diaper cake. Ever. Made.
I knew the size of the dining table this cake was going on and so I made it to scale as best I could. It still ended up being far too small.
Regardless, I finished assembly and decorated it pretty simply. Just the way I knew Mrs. Eartha would want it.
Not bad for my first try.

Then this month we had two second baby baby showers in Sunday School. They wanted to have a combined diaper shower so I thought I’d make a cake for each of them. Diaper shower = diaper cake. Right?
The last one was for a co-worker. My boss is kinda picky about baby or wedding showers at the office. They take time away from work.
I have no comment to make about that.
So this shower was going to take place during the lunch hour at a local Mexican restaurant.
Which is where all showers of any kind should take place.
I could have given some cash to the gift card but I thought the poor girl needed some sort of decoration that was not a sombrero or queso.
Although queso as a centerpiece is pretty much the definition of awesome.
Right about now, ya’ll are wondering what happened to the girl who spent all her free time shopping at Banana and walking the aisles of Target. Well…
I had a baby.
There’s really no other explanation.
Chris says all the craftiness is “nesting”. Not a clue if that’s true or not. All I know is I feel this bizarre need to create. I only wish I was driven to create one thing instead of lots of small things.
Because on top of my need to create is my boredom. Once I start a project, I usually do several and then I am done. D. O. N. E. Done.
That’s where I am now with the whole diaper cake thing. Bored and done. So if you find yourself in need of a diaper cake, let me direct you to etsy and some really cute ones there.
But do let me know if there’s a craft project you’d like to throw my way. I feel certain I will be bored with the onesies in about another 2 days.
