Gratitude Friday…

The past couple of weeks, I’ve been thinking a lot about how the Lord speaks to us. Not many burning bushes these days or angels appearing in the middle of the night. Well, at least not near me anyway.

There are several folks lately who’ve heard pretty distinctly from the Lord. All in very different ways.

Fanny’s going through a tough time. Just a big ole mess of gossip and jealously and people looking to tear her down. Something she’s put her heart and soul into is coming to an end. Any my heart breaks for her. But at the same time, the Lord has used all this to make it pretty clear she needs to move. Move. Really move.

Another dear friend is feeling restless. You know that unsettled feeling where you just need to do something. You no longer feel content with the way things are. She’s wondering if it’s time to change jobs, time to change cities or if there’s a major life change coming her way that the Lord is simply preparing her for. Whatever it is, she feels it.

And still another friend got the loudest message of all. She, her husband and their eleven year old daughter got swept away in a flood while camping on vacation. My friend ended up stranded in a convenience store clinging to the ceiling watching the water rise and then fall for hours. All the while she was praying for her daughter who was rescued five miles down the river by a retired fireman as he and his wife were leaving to escape their own flooded house. Meanwhile, her husband was pulled out of the water 32 miles down the river and only 400 yards away from the dam. It’s a miracle they all survived and trust me, there were lots of miracles along the way to ensure their survival. When they got home, they met with their pastor who said You guys have work to do. You need to get busy praying about what the Lord has planned for your lives.

We all wish He could send us a text message or an email or even, like my restless friend said, send us a paper airplane with instructions written on it. That would make life much simpler.

Doubt any of us is wishing to survive a massive flood though.

Regardless of what’s going on in your life or how you’re feeling, the Lord has some stuff to tell you. Things He needs you to be working on.

And He wants to talk with us. Tell us where to go next. Show us how to step out on faith and trust that He will not leave us. Our job is to listen and follow. We may not always know the why behind where He’s leading us but that’s okay. He’s got a much bigger view. I’m just grateful He’s speaking.

  2. Robin,
So well said. We just have to quit giving God our "want list" and really spend time listening. In this "immediate answer" world that is very hard to do. Love to watch how God is working in your life.
Love you and see you soon. Martha
