Weekend on the floor…
In my Christmas wish list I sent to Chris, I asked for a weekend of sports in OKC. They have a new NBA team (in case you hadn’t heard) and then of course there’s OU basketball. This past weekend we decided to make the trip. Friday we both took the afternoon off so we could beat the ridiculous I-35 traffic. If you don’t get out of town by 3:00 pm, you might as well add another hour onto your travel plans. Seriously, it’s a parking lot.
I’d gotten tickets to the Thunder game through work. We’d gone to lots of Hornets games when they were in OKC. I never took one single picture. It was kind of “the” place to see and be seen. Honestly, I didn’t want to appear like I was a tourist. Lots of people did take pictures and that was fine but for me, I felt uncomfortable.
I’m over that.
This time, I didn’t care how stupid we looked I wanted pictures. We were on the second row floor center court. Yeah, I know. It’s the little sacrifices made in life that make us who we are.
Here’s our view before the game and during warm-ups.

Half time picture.
We invited some friends, Ali and Al Gator. Ali is a grad assistant at OU. She took Chris’ spot when he left. They are a great couple. Really normal and down to earth. That’s very likely because they are both teachers and both from the south. And there’s the added perk that Ali thinks Chris is hilarious. He had her laughing all night. I loved watching it. He is funny. I’ve just heard most of it before.
The lady sitting beside me was even laughing at his jokes. And his dancing. Oh yes, folks, the dancing is just that good.
Saturday we headed to Norman for an OU men’s basketball game. We had the band’s tickets way up at the top of Lloyd Nobel but then Ali and Al saw us and took us down with the band on the floor.
Darn.
It was a good game but the team was playing a little lazy. Still though we got to see the potential Player of the Year and some pretty amazing basketball.
Our plan was to head to OSU to watch the women’s basketball game on Sunday but the game was too late and would have put us getting back home past my bedtime. Way past. No thanks. We did watch some of it on TV but they killed the poor lady Cowboys so it wasn’t much of a game.
All in all, an outstanding weekend. As a couple, we certainly don’t like to do everything together. Despite my best attempts, Chris still doesn’t particularly like to shop and I will definitely never be a video game player. But we love sports and we always have a great time cheering on our favorite teams.
Sounds like a fun weekend!
