Gratitude Friday…
Happy Valentine’s Weekend! Otherwise known as Stay Away from Every Restaurant in Town weekend. Only trumped by Sunday lunch on Mother’s Day. Seriously. If you need me, I’ll be eating a frozen pizza at home Saturday night!
I hope every one had a great week. Sort of a blur for me. It was Sunday and then all the sudden it’s Friday. Work hasn’t been nearly as bad this week but for some reason it still flew by. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t have time to remember to be thankful for some strange things this week. Enjoy!
1. American Idol – Oh you sweet, wonderful thing, you! How I miss you between May and January. I love seeing all the wonderful stories of the contestants. I cry when they get cut. I cry when they make it. And seriously, if you didn’t cry listening to Danny talk about his late wife, then you are cold and heartless. Just like Chandler. Or Kanye West.
2. Dishwasher – How I have neglected being thankful for my dishwasher! Poor thing has been sick now for almost two weeks. I’ve been washing dishes every night and for the most part, have a pretty good system down. But really, I should have been showing the love to Dishwasher all along. It’s only when something is gone we honestly appreciate it for all its glorious qualities.
3. It’s cyclical – I don’t know about anyone else but my obsessions sort of go in cycles. One month, I’m all about shopping for new things for the house. Looking through Pottery Barn catalogues for inspirations. Then the next, I’m over the moon excited about tank tops and a new outfit. That just runs right into holy moly I’ve got to get caught up on my scrapbooking. Which then moves to good gracious alive my house is filthy. I am very grateful I can go from one to the other. It keeps life interesting and at some point, everything gets done. Even if it is 4 months apart (seriously, I don’t go that long in between house cleanings. Scout’s honor!)
4. Solitude – This week is the annual TX band geek conference. Chris is gone and I’m on my own. I started planning for this weekend last week. I got all my scrapbook stuff out, printed pictures, bought paper and made a plan. I am so ready. I plan on eating Baskin Robbins Rainbow Sherbet for lunch and Lucky Charms for dinner. Every day. That should significantly reduce the number of dishes I have to wash too. Really, I love being with Chris but I also enjoy the times to myself when I can indulge in my hobbies without sharing the TV with Call of Duty 4.
5. Rain – My brothers tells me TX is in a serious drought. If the New York Times says it, then it must be true. I haven’t been paying much attention, I guess. But this week, we got some pretty big storms in the area. Tuesday night the rain was just coming down in sheets against our wall of windows. It started just about the time I was snuggling down in bed. The sound of the Lord’s rain on my windows lulled me right to sleep. I am grateful He sent the rain. Its so comforting to know that regardless of what I am or am not aware of, He is and He sends us what we need.
Have a wonderful weekend! Good luck Mom on your race! I’m so very proud of you! And to everyone else, be careful in those restaurants.

Hey, enjoy your weekend. I'm thankful for my chair, Mike and TiVO! Last night, after a Valentines celebration with 22 seven year olds, we both fell into our chairs very tired. No students the next day, slept a little longer the next morning, so I got to stay up a little longer with Mike. A good night! Love, Mom
