Yes, Texas, autumn leaves really do exist…

Several months ago, like as in sometime in July I think, Mrs. Fanny Pack asked me if I’d be interested in a road trip. Being that she’s professional musician, she had a concert scheduled in Missouri and wanted some company for the road. There were some moments last week when I felt like I really couldn’t do this trip. I wanted to go but with the shots and the medication schedule and then the realization that Missouri is almost 8 hours from my house, I had to really do some serious thinking.

And here was my thought. Fanny – not a confident driver. Okay, so that’s an understatement. God love her, she’s working on it and in her defense she has had more than her fair share of disturbing road experiences, but really a drive from the south side of OKC to the north side of OKC is so far her solitary driving limit.
That’s about 45 minutes.

Springfield, MO? Much further than that.

So as I thought through all the joys of giving myself the shots and being without my solid rock of a husband to do it, my genuine concern that Fanny would end up on the side of the road, frozen by fear after some unknowing driver cut her off on the interstate leaving her unable to drive any further was more powerful than a few little shots.

And thus, we made the trip.

Friday night after we wrongfully assumed there would be only 1 minivan in the parking lot and thus tried every door but the correct door to get to rehearsal, I dropped Fanny off and headed to my hotel. We’d spent 4 hours in the car and for the most part, were pretty caught up on the ins and outs of our lives. I was wiped and desperately wanted to wash off the remaining makeup from the costume earlier in the day.

Saturday morning following a delightful breakfast of Rice Krispies, I picked Fanny up for some shopping.

Fanny’s lost some weight. Well, okay, that’s another understatement. She’s down to her high school weight and ladies, we all know that’s HUGE. She was interested in doing a little shopping with a female older than 4 which I think is completely understandable. Unfortunately, Fanny is also rather tall. Like as in 6 foot tall which means nothing in regular stores fits. All in all, she came out with a sweater. Not much of an accomplishment but it was nice nonetheless. After lunch at Ruby Tuesday’s, she headed to rehearsal while I headed to the hotel to watch, what else, college football.

I also ran. The treadmill was free and it was calling my name.

The church where she was performing is just off the campus of Missouri State University. And as we all know, for some strange reason, there are beautiful older homes around universities. This one was no exception. I decided to drive around the neighborhoods and take some pictures of the amazing fall leaves. Really, the pictures do not do these beautiful trees justice.

That night was her concert and it was really great. She was funny and the music was so enjoyable. How often can you really say that about a concert? It was just really nice. Laid-back-lovely-put-a-smile-on-your-face enjoyable. Hopefully she’ll get the concert posted on youtube and I’ll get ya’ll the link. Until then, here are some pictures of her pretending to sing after the concert because well, I didn’t want to be that girl who takes flash photos during a performance and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out how to turn off the flash.

After the concert, it was time for me to head back to the hotel for my nightly shoot up. I had the sheer joy of watching the longhorns lose while Chris was sending me text messages about our Sooners. All in all, an outstanding day.

Sunday, Fanny sang two more songs at church before we hit the road. The congregation sang “His Eye is on the Sparrow” which I had not sung in a long, long time. I loved it. Such a sweet message and I smiled singing my heart out and thanking the Lord for reminding me of another wonderful promise.

Just one more note. I took this photo on Saturday before the concert. I thought it was such a nice site. However, by Sunday morning the price had dropped 4 more cents and on our way out of town we actually saw $1.90. Seriously? When will that hit Texas?

Thanks for the great weekend Fanny!!!!
