Gratitude Friday…and Saturday… and Sunday…

Mrs. JT and I had a wonderful weekend. Thursday was lunch at the Main Street Bakery in Grapevine where we had the best Tomato Basil Soup and then shopping in the outlet malls at Grapevine Mills. I bought a jacket and a tee shirt. She got an amazing denim jacket for pretty much nothing. Had it not been for another Auburn football loss that night, it would have been a perfect day.

We started Friday on a mission to find scrapbook materials. We both have access to the big stores like Michael’s and Hobby Lobby but not anything cute and cozy. So we made a plan that involved a road trip to Waxahachie and Corsicana. We headed out towards Waxahachie with a full tank of gas and lots of hopes for adorable supplies.

Our first stop was pretty good. I got some great letters and Mrs. JT bought some paper for her Cancun pages. We asked the lady at the store for a local eatery suggestion and headed toward historic downtown Waxahachie. We walked around downtown loving every minute of looking at the quaint antique shops and mom & pop restaurants. The streets were being blocked off for the homecoming parade later that day. We saw a float or two and the horses getting ready for their prance. Ah, small towns.

We ate lunch at the 1879 Chisholm Grill. It was this fabulous little place decorated with photos and posters that looked like they’d been hanging there since 1952.

I particularly loved this photo. I emailed it to my boss, who hates Dallas, and told her I was thinking of her. Although, I happen to agree with it as well. Does that mean I may be turning into a Fort Worthian?

After a lunch of meatloaf, mac & cheese and corn, we headed out to do some more exploring. We soon found The Dove’s Nest (http://www.thedovesnestrestaurant.com/index.htm). We both fell in love with this little shop. I found 2 more vintage towels in the pattern I collect and a handkerchief table cloth. Mrs. JT bought a beaded bracelet with pink and blue beads. It was really cute.

Reluctantly we headed to Corsicana knowing full well it would take a lot to top Waxahachie. Fortunately, the scrapbook store completely lived up to its reputation. I bought some amazing paper and embellishments along with some adorable Christmas paper. Mrs. JT found more Cancun paper. After a stop for candy and soda, we headed back to Mansfield for a night of high school football.

What a night it was. The team won. Darn it. Mrs. JT loved the band’s show and said she’d never seen anything like it.

And welcome to Texas.

I ate nachos, because really, isn’t that a requirement when attending a football game and Mrs. JT ate a gigantic pickle because again, it’s part of the package. She loved the drill team (every single drill team I have seen in 2 years wears cowboy hats, fringe and boots), the blow up Cougar head and watching Chris being a director. The kids played some stand tune and Chris got on the microphone and said, “That song was brought to you by the letter L for lame and losers”. The kids laughed because well, they think Mr. Evans is funny. He is pretty funny.

Saturday we watched football (and seriously, when did college football scores start to more closely resemble basketball scores?), scrapbooked and then went to the area marching finals Saturday night. These bands march to Beethoven and Copeland. They have large props and the most amazing auxiliaries. As we were leaving, we told Mrs. JT now she knows why we’re in Texas. No one else is doing that. With as much money. Or sounding like a stage concert while marching and frequently, dancing.

Today was lunch and unfortunately, Mrs. JT had to go home. Boo boo hiss hiss.

In between all the fun, Chris and Mrs. JT went though all my medications, created an easy to follow schedule and found some questions for the doctor. I got a little nauseous just looking at it all so they would discuss all this while I was in the shower or even after I went to bed. There is no way Chris and I could ever thank her for helping us. It’s difficult to be by ourselves doing all of this but it was a huge help to talk through everything with my dearest friend.

Thank you Mrs. JT for the wonderful weekend of fun, distraction and direction. We both love you so much. More than college football, marching band or scrapbooking!
