So sorry to have missed last week. I can tell you that last Friday I was most grateful that the week was almost over. It was crazy at work and really, one of the only times in my life I remember actually wishing for a Monday.
However, my husband will remind me that Monday’s are 1/7th of your life so you better get happy about them.
But the weekend was such a success as far as work goes and I couldn’t have been more thrilled.
Last night, I was a Horned Frog. I know. Amazing isn’t it.
When I moved down here, my boss insisted I select a Texas football team for which I could cheer. Since all the Big 12 schools were so obviously not an option, I selected TCU. They are in Fort Worth and well, Pat Sullivan did coach there so they’ve been graced with an Auburn presence in the past.
And there’s the whole purple thing. I look good in purple.
So, anyway last night my company had tickets to the TCU/BYU game. We were in a suite again. It’s been a stellar year for suite attendance. Chris couldn’t make it. That darn job thing got in the way. My job, however, required me to be there.
Shoot.
The suite felt very literally like it was about to fall off the stadium at any minute. It didn’t wobble or anything but the view down from the glass was not for the faint hearted.
But the view was great for the game and people watching alike. I love watching the students, the band, the families and friends, all there together for a night of fun. Nice to have a reminder of how small we are. My life is just one of the billions God is watching. Sometimes, we need those moments to step back and really think about others. Sure, our situation may be over whelming sometimes but looking at the hundreds of people on the field at half time wearing pink ribbons in honor of a woman in their life that has lost the battle with breast cancer gives you pause. Really, our life is not bad. God is good. God is faithful. His plan for our lives is perfect. We’re the flawed ones.
Anyway, after TCU scores, this big Zambonie looking thing on the south side of the stadium lets out this big train engine noise.
Yeah, you know. Woo – woooooo…
My first question was what the heck is that? Followed immediately by and what does that have to do with being a horned frog?
I’ve never actually heard what a horned frog sounds like but I was 99% certain it didn’t sound like a sound studio during the filming of a western.
Apparently, this sound does in fact have nothing to do with horned frogs. Someone donated that machine to them again proving the time tested truth that just because something’s free, doesn’t mean it has any value.
Of course, as I’m relaying this oddity to Chris, he reminded me that we are the Auburn Tigers but we have an eagle circle the stadium while we yell War Eagle. True dat. People who live in glass houses…
Apart from the bad 1980’s décor and the fact that BYU forgot to show up, the evening was good. I had a nice time hanging out with the folks from work. College football, even Mountain West college football, is always fun. The band is great to watch too. They have a wonderful time, win or lose.
Hope the Auburn band feels that way too.
So today, I am most grateful for a night full of distraction and a simple reminder that there is more going on in the world than what’s happening in our life. In short, life goes on and is going on. I’m grateful for that.
You are so right - I know I need to realize that what is going on in our life is so small compared to the struggles in some peoples lives. Thank you for that wake up call this morning. I did indeed need to hear that!
