Gratitude Friday…
Another late in the day post. Sorry, I’ve been learning how to “supervise” and “manage” a staff all week. Really, I should start this list by saying I am immensely grateful I currently have no one weeping in my office about being called Mary Poppins by another woman on the staff. So not kidding.
Chris would like to start the list today by saying he is grateful for being awake in the house at the same time as his wife. I am also grateful for that. Only one more week of our ships passing in the night routine.
But this week is all about the things I love about America. Like everyone else, the Olympics (and specifically Michael Phelps) have made me proud to be an American. It’s a little shorter than normal. You can blame all the gnashing of teeth, weeping and drama I’ve been dealing with for 2 solid days. So here we go and I hope you enjoy!
1. We don’t paint all our houses gray for TV – I’m sure you’ve all heard the stories about China painting all the houses the same color to look good on TV. I’ve heard they only painted the fronts because that’s all people would see. We don’t even pretend to look pretty for TV. We put all our craziness right out there for all the world to see. We debate, disagree, rebel, question and challenge our government and our elected officials every single day. Most days, I could do without all that arguing but I sure am grateful we have the freedom to do so!
2. Rock and roll – Okay, let’s face it, any country that manages to produce “The Twist”, “Dude Looks Like a Lady” and “Mr. Roboto” is pretty outstanding. Sure other countries have Mozart and Beethoven and David Hasselholf (yes, he’s American but only Germans seem to revere him as a musician) but we have Buddy Holly, Elvis, The Indigo Girls and Justin Timberlake. We’re way cooler than other those other folks.
3. Worship – Did anyone see W’s interview with Bob Costas? He mentioned how he’s encouraging China to allow for religious freedom. Does anyone realize we actually have that? I often wonder these days with the way Christians seem to hide in our homes and inside our churches instead of being out there in our communities telling people where our joy, our peace, our comfort comes from. We are so blessed to be able to openly worship our Savior that we often take it for granted. Next time you are at a restaurant and you bow your head to say grace, remember to thank our Heavenly Father for the freedom to do so in public.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend! We have new curtains to hang and a great deal of sleeping to catch up on. Love to you all!!!
