Last week Mrs. Fanny Pack emailed me an update on her life as she finalized her plans for a week away with Mr. Pack. The subject line of the email was fabulous:

“I hate the pressure of the subject line!”

Genius.

So today I am feeling the same way. I have no real subject for this post other than to say it’s just stuff that’s happening’. Not exciting I realize.

First, I want to give the husband a standing ovation for the fantastic work he did on the yard this weekend. He trimmed the bushes, pulled weeds, planted flowers, put down mulch and mowed and edged the yard. My mother has a green thumb and has always enjoyed gardening. I have a black thumb and much prefer bushes to flowers. The likelihood that I’ll kill those is relatively small. Thanks to the help of God’s sunshine and a sprinkler system, anyway. I do like the look of a full flowerbed however, so I married someone who’s willing to do the flower work. I got lucky on that one.

Yesterday we visited another local church and I am happy to report we sang a hymn! I cannot tell you how elated I was to be singing

Crown him the Lord of love
Behold His hands and side
Those wounds, yet visible above,
In beauty glorified.
All hail, Redeemer, hail!
For thou hast died for me;
Thy praise and glory shall not fail
Throughout eternity

The Lord of love! It just doesn’t get much better than that. Singing this one hymn truly brought me to a place of worship.

We sang probably 6 other praise choruses and only one of them did I vaguely recognize. I have a hard time worshiping when I’m trying to find where the verses end and the chorus begins. Either we are far, far out of the chorus loop or churches are simply seeking out whatever someone else hasn’t sung. We’re all trying to be unique.

Try singing “Victory in Jesus” or “Blessed Assurance”.

That’ll make you unique, I promise.

Other than that, I spent my weekend doing laundry, running, ironing and grocery shopping.

Oh, and I also devoted hours to thinking about what I’ll wear this weekend and where I’d like to eat on Friday night while I’m at home.

Seriously, the pressure of being the best-dressed aunt from Texas is really over-whelming.

What to wear that looks nice but is okay for Noah to drool on? Give that some thought and get back with me. I own pretty much nothing that’s baby friendly. Don’t have to and all my friends’ kids are now both past the drooling phase and more importantly, they live 3 hours from me.

And the food? Words can’t even describe how I long for good barbeque and a Milo’s sweet tea. Nothing I eat this entire week will compare to a Jim n’Nick’s corn muffin. Now, that won’t stop me from trying with a big heaping bowl of Coco Krispie’s tonight. I have plans to cook fajitas but Chris can eat those. I’ll take the little chocolate rice morsels swimming in delicious chocolate milk.

So see...no real point. Gardening, hymns, drool friendly clothes and food. Ahhh...all that life's really about.
