Gratitude Fridays
In an effort to stay continually focused on the immeasurable blessings in my life, I have decided to reserve Friday posts for all the things or events during the week for which I am grateful. Get ready because I find more things every day to be grateful for! It’s an addiction. Once you start focusing your life on the blessings God has given you instead of questioning why He hasn’t given you everything else you think you need, you won’t be able to stop. Trust me on this. So here we go and again, there’s no real order to this.
1. Baskin Robbins’ Rainbow Sherbet – I have no idea what it is about this particular sherbet but I can’t help myself. It turns a gray sky blue for me. Maybe it’s the Pineapple. Maybe not. Regardless, I love it. True confession – the teenage girl at the nearest BR began to recognize me after several Saturday excursions there. She literally said, “This must be your favorite.” I changed stores. Promptly.
2. Satellite Radio – Since the move to DFW, I find I have more quality time in my car. The 3 minute commute in OKC from our house to my office was hardly adequate time for true musical exploration. However, the new “30-Minute-But-Only-If-Its-Sunny-And-There-Are-No-Stalled-Crashed-Or-Odd-Looking-Vehilces Commute” offers me the time I so desperately needed. The satellite choices seem endless and well, rather specific. There are, of course, the usual oldies but goodies stations separated by decade. You know, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s etc. But there are also stations like “Hair Bands” or “Coffeehouse”. How delightful! Not sure if I will ever need an “Elvis Radio” fix but should that important moment arise, then my satellite radio will be there to support me through it. And where else but on “Super Shuffle” can you sing along with Alan Jackson’s “Chattahoochee” then Journey’s “Wheel in the Sky” and end with Pink and “Stupid Girl”. There is just not enough of that kind of variety in the world.
3. Multi Color Beaded Necklace – In what can only be described as a sheer miracle, I discovered this signature piece in Kohl’s several years ago. For $5.00. Seriously. It originally had 5 strands but after years of use and many, many, many hours being slung around by airport baggage handlers and KKP band members, it is down to 3. It goes with almost everything I wear. It has turquoise, pink, purple, green, red and yellow beads. Now really, if you can’t find something that matches it, you’re not looking hard enough.
4. Sunshine – What a treat to see the sun every day! After several days of thunderstorms, tornadoes and general dreariness, I am so thankful for the beautiful sunshine today. It makes me smile. Yesterday the sun came out just before lunch following a night of really terrible weather. I had to drive home to meet the AT&T guy to repair our TV and internet connection. It could not have been more beautiful and it just reminded me that after every storm comes the sun. God doesn’t promise us sunny days every day but then again, would we appreciate it as much if we had it every day.
5. Prayers – My husband looked at me last night and said “I haven’t seen you smile this much… in years”. Well, that’s not great but he’s likely completely right. My heart has been so focused on one thing for almost two years now and for some reason, the weight of that struggle seems to be lifting. I know of only one reason for that and it is because of the prayers from my family and friends. When your heart aches for something, it is difficult to see beyond that one thing. The sadness of it took hold of me and there were days when just breathing seemed overwhelming. I’m certain there are more dark days ahead (see #4) but today, I am so grateful for all of your support, love and especially for your prayers.
The Lord is so good. I am blessed beyond measure. He saved me and forgave me but for some reason, He continues to love me despite my failings every day. I hope you will begin looking for the little things in your life for which you can offer a prayer of gratitude. For me, I am wearing my signature necklace, listening to one of my favorite CD’s, feeling the warmth of the sun coming through our windows and looking forward to a Friday treat of Rainbow Sherbet. Life doesn’t get much better than this.
