For her school Halloween party, Aubrey Kate opted to revive her previous role at Pocahontas.
I'm certain you don't remember but she was Pocahontas in her three year old preschool class. Let us take a moment and admire this BABY dressed as Pocahontas.
Oh my heart.
Look at those cheeks!!! Sweet mercy.
And here she was today...
And this is her during the annual Costume Parade at school. I was sitting on the ground and she was desperately looking for us. Her face was anxious and a little sad. But once she saw us, she perked right up and was all grins.
Look how much she has grown! At three, that dress was down to her feet. At five, it's hitting above her knee.
I was thrilled she wanted to dress at Pocahontas again. I'm a fan of that Disney character. She DOES NOT pick the man. She opts for her duty and her people. And watched the man sail away on the ship into the sunset.
Beautiful.
Stark contrast to Ariel. Who met and married a man when she was just 15.
Who at Disney thought that was a good idea?
Clearly no one with a daughter.
Anyway, my mom commented on the obviously period wardrobe essential... the red striped leggings.
AK selected those to match the red ribbons on the dress. I have looked for some brown leggings but I couldn't seem to find any. Without buying new. And I try to avoid that whenever possible.
So red and white stripes it was.
In case you're wondering if Rhys got to dress up at his school, the answer is yes.
But he opted not to do so.
His school has Western Day. Because Texas.
The kids were encouraged to dress up as cowboys and cowgirls. There was a petting zoo. Games. Rhys' class dug for gold in the playground sand box.
I must have asked him 20 times if he wanted dress up like a cowboy. He said no exactly 20 times. Apparently, cowboys are mean. Even a lively discussion on Woody of Toy Story could not sway him. So it was possible he was the only child not dressed up.
When we walked in the room, he most definitely noticed his classmates' outfits. I watched him closely. He stood there, scanned the room and took stock of all the boots, bandanas and plaid shirts. Then he went right on about the business of playing.
The good side of strong-willed... He doesn't want to dress up like everyone else and is totally fine being the only one in regular clothes. Other kids might have been upset. Rhys made note of the situation and decided he was cool.
I have to remind myself there are good sides to the strong-willed nature. And looking back at the pictures of Aubrey Kate helps. She was so headstrong at three. Everything was a battle.
Now it's her brother's turn.
Only he's simply not wearing the costume. At. All.
I'm sure true cowboys everywhere are grateful to have one less poor imitation of themselves. But in the case of Pocahontas, I am certain she would be thrilled to see my blond-haired, blue-eyed beauty pretending to be her.
Red striped leggings and all.
She looks precious! So glad she had a great time. It sounds like Rhys had a good time too, playing and just being Rhys. Fun times! Love you!
