Pumpkin finished up her tenure in preschool today. How is that possible? I feel like she was born just a few months ago.
And yet...
It feels like she's been with us at least twenty years. Or maybe that's because we haven't slept since she was born.
She's worth it though.
Let's discuss her outfit, shall we? That skirt? 24 MONTHS.
I swear, this skirt confounds me. It's absolutely everything she hates about clothing. It's got shorts in the skirt which she refuses to wear any other time. And the shorts are tight. Like bike shorts. Which she also refuses to wear. It's a gray zebra print and matches approximately nothing else she owns. It doesn't sparkle or twirl or even bounce when she jumps.
I don't get it.
And yet, this skirt continues to make an appearance every. single. year.
So there's that.
Wait. One more thing. It's so short it makes her legs look ten miles long. Gracious.
This time, Aubrey Kate wanted to write on her own chalkboard. In case you can't squint and read that, it says, "Aubrey Kate, End of the Year Show." She was so proud of her chalkboard.
Rhys, not wanting to be left out, brought out his "board" which is his puzzle he's been carrying around everywhere the last several days. He propped it up on the door just like Sister did.
And no, Rhys does not have chicken pox. He was outside with Daddy Monday night for about 15 minutes. And he got eaten alive. Bless.
Here she is with her sweet teachers. They both commented today on how much she's grown this year. One said she was just glad to see Aubrey Kate happy. Which is a huge praise! The other said she would do well in kindergarten. "It'll be a struggle but she'll do fine."
Never were truer words spoken.
Outside the sanctuary, the school had set up this precious photo area. Clearly, Aubrey Kate was thrilled to participate. At least she uncrossed her arms.
Her "End of the Year Show" was her best yet. She was front and center again. Best guess, she did maybe 30% of the moves with the songs but she did sing most of them. We had a good time watching her. She frequently waved in the middle of the song but that's okay. We'll take an enthusiastic wave over bawling and wiping her nose with her sleeve. Any day!
The good news of the day, she had a great time. She understood this was the end of her time in that class. She's already talking about her new teacher and new classroom. Keeping her at the same school, although expensive, was absolutely the right move.
I met with her kindergarten teacher this morning. Wonderful woman. We had an awesome talk about our expectations and concerns for next year. I came away with a good understanding of how she sets up her class and the path of a typical day. Those are awesome. This way I can spend the next three months prepping AK for the changes. Hopefully, she'll come into the class better prepared for the transition and changes.
But the best part, we ended the meeting praying together for Aubrey Kate.
And THAT, praying together with a teacher, the person who will help guide and direct my miracle girl next year, THAT is my greatest gift of the day.
Aubrey Kate, you are an amazing girl. Long-legged and gorgeous. Everything in life worth doing is a struggle. You wouldn't want it if it came easily. Only in Christ are all things possible. We'll simply keep praying and asking Him to make a way. And, sweet girl, He will. Praise Jesus, He will!!!
